Nyhavn Canal

The markets ran all the way from the main square Kongens Nytorv to the colourful buildings along the Nyhavn canal. The Scandinavian version of mulled wine ‘Glögg’ and traditional Danish food ‘Smørrebrød’ were everywhere to be bought. The best and cheapest Glögg we found was from a Scottish Pub called McJoy’s Choice.

Østergade (main shopping street)

It is the longest pedestrian street in the world, it snakes through the city from the central train station to Kongens Nytorv Square.

Amalienborg & Frederik’s Church

Amalienborg is the home of the Danish Royal Family. On the perimeter of this square courtyard are four identical palaces. Every day you can witness the changing of the guards. They march from their barracks at Gothersgade 100 to Amalienborg and change the guard at midday. From the ‘Frederik V on Horseback’ Statue, you can see the enormous Frederik’s Church, also known as ‘The Marble Church’ for its rococo architecture.
